Pro/Mini - The Uber Lan Box - Day 4

DAY 4-

Cut'n the last hole, and getting the res. tank built

Well... Shipping Delays suck don't they? Over the 4th and 5th day little happened due to me still waiting for some of the key cooling system parts ( Pump, Block, Cold plate, sealant) from Overclock-watercool.com and a load of goodies from Coolerguys.com. But I was able to do a lot of planning and work on the design of the cooling system

The Last case hole for a fan was cut.  the 92mm fan placement on the back of the case is key as it is the exhaust for the inside of the case.

Reason for not using a 120mm there? -  With the 80mm in the PSU, and the 92mm in the back it will equal or be very close to the total CFM of the 120mm so it should encourage a balanced static pressure in the case.

Coolerguys.com was supplying the 92mm Sunon 2800RPM fan. The nice rubber grommet was from Case Etc. I love that stuff, keeps it all nice and safe, no worry about slivers or sharp edges.

I got 6 CompuNurses from Coolerguys.com for the DH3 article but only used 5. So I had one left over and mounted it in the front of the case. It will be later attached to the CPU core to give a accurate core temp reading.

The Res. Tank's

This was one of the most troublesome issues with the system. How to make the res. tank fit yet still hold enough coolant. It took most of Day 5 and the destruction of four res. tanks to build one that fit perfectly.

Its not that complicated of a setup, but by putting the fittings on the back like that I eliminated the need to take up possibly a 2nd 5 1/4 bay to run hose. But to make this work I needed to do some creative case work and engineering.

Later in the article you will see why I did this, but it will allow the coolant runs run down the back of the drive cage and keep em fully out of sight. But I had to cut one of the main sources of stability of the back plate, the top brace. I took some Brass Box  bar and drilled a big hole on one side and a small one on the other. I then drilled and tapped holes and anchored he brass bar onto the back plate. The Result was a VERY sturdy and very out of the way solution.

The small Nuclear power station in yer case.

Anyone else got wood?  that's 650watts of pure OC'n-Supa Cool'n-Fan Power'n- Silence.

Its a SUPER quiet psu.. scary its so quiet.  I am just in awe of this PSU.  I am buying 2 for DH3 (one for the main PC parts and one just for Pelts).  It runs COLD with all the gear in the Mini including a 130watt pelt on it!

More on this later.
