The FiOv2 Unveiled - The Second Gen. Franken Opener

Why Windows ME sucks on an iOpener- NO FREAK'N DOS!
|

|

You CANNOT flash your BIOS on an iO once you install windows ME. Because there is no floppy to boot from once that OS is on there, you are screwed. I had to scratch the disk on the Franken opener, and load Win98SE back on just to do the BIOS flash. I recommendation is stay with Win98SE. ME is Unstable, and is just the bastard child of an already outdated and corrupt OS ( win98). The iO doesn't have the power to run Win2K Pro, so Win 98 SE is the best bet.

Well I have covered the majority of what this new iO is. Its portable, light, and impresses people where ever I go ( still cant seem to get chicks with it though :)
I own a notebook but if you are going into a job site and want a nice fairly robust machine that cant be put up and taken down in a mater of minutes and is actually a lot smaller then a notebooks foot print. I would look for these on Ebay or somewhere.
I have had people offer to buy this one for 500$ - 600 $ already. everything included. I said NOPE.
The Performance of the RiSE CPU is VERY close to what my K62 was with none of the weight and noise penalties.
Unfortunately Netpliance has done everything in its power ( and almost gone tits up cause of it) to render this machine un hackable, and it seems they have finally found the weakness in geeks, the pocket book. No one would pay 400$ for a V5+ iO that you cant get the sound to work on, and is a bitch to mod. But Keep an eye out E-Bay, and yahoo auctions has some 400 - 500$ Pre modded iO's every now and then.
( I got this one for a stick of high quality PC100 CAS2 128mb Dimm. VERY cheap by comparison.)
